City of Sydney: Draft Sydney DCP

City of Sydney: Draft Sydney DCP

A new City Plan is being prepared for the City of Sydney.

As a result of the amalgamation of council areas with City of Sydney Council (South Sydney, Leichhardt and Ultimo Pyrmont) the City now has several different sets of planning controls. Council is reviewing these existing plans in order to develop a comprehensive and consistent City Plan.

The new City Plan will be a package which includes a single Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP) and supporting information that will apply to the whole City of Sydney for the whole Local Government Area (LGA).

The draft Sydney DCP is being reported to the Planning Development and Transport Committee meeting on 11 October 2010 seeking adoption for public exhibition. It is also being reported to the Central Sydney Planning Committee (CSPC) on 14 October 2010.

The draft Sydney DCP provides more detailed planning controls and guidance for development within the City of Sydney and supports the provisions in draft Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2010 (draft Sydney LEP). The draft Sydney DCP includes detailed provisions related to built form, sustainability and the environment, conservation of heritage items, the design and use of the public domain, landscaping and tree preservation requirements, transport and access, the achievement of residential amenity and the desired future character of the City's neighbourhoods.

A copy of the agenda and report is available for viewing in hard copy at Council’s Customer Service Centres and on Council’s website at:

The draft Sydney DCP referred to here is not a matter for consideration in the assessment of development applications under Section 79C of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979.
