Thank you for your time on the phone today in regards to Census 2011 recruitment.
I am officially writing to seek the support of your organisation with regard to the next national Census of Population and Housing, which will be conducted on the night of Tuesday 9 August 2011.
In order to assist in the preparation and operation of the Census, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is recruiting around 43,000 community minded field staff across Australia, 10,000 of which will be in NSW and the ACT.
Census workers are vital to the success of the Census, and to their communities. We need to count every household correctly to ensure Census data is as accurate and reliable as possible. This data is used by communities, private institutions and all levels of government for planning services and facilities.
The ABS has identified that many members of your organisation may possess the requisite skills and experience to make a valuable contribution to the Census as either Area Supervisors or Collectors.
Area Supervisors are responsible for selecting, training, supervising and leading a team of Collectors. Area Supervisors will be required to work from 18 April 2011 until 7 October 2011.
Collectors are responsible for delivering and collecting forms from all dwellings in a specified area. Collectors will be required to work from 1 July 2011 until 8 September 2011.
If your members would like to help support their community, working on the Census is a great community based activity that makes a real difference to Australia.
If members are interested in an upcoming position, either as an Area Supervisor or Collector, they can register their interest online at www.abs.gov.au/census

The ABS would greatly appreciate your assistance if you could forward this information to your members.
If you or your members have any queries regarding the recruitment of Area Supervisors and Collectors for the 2011 Census, then please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
