HAYMARKET CAPITALISES ON VISITOR GROWTH
To lure greater numbers of tourists to explore the delights of Haymarket and Chinatown, a new visitor guide is being developed that will highlight many of the area’s major attractions.
The guide is the initiative of the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce and aims to promote activities such as the regular Friday night markets on Dixon Street, the Market City complex including Paddy’s market, shopping, dining, annual events and historic points of interest in Haymarket and Chinatown.
Brad Chan, President of the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce, said that the development of the guide is timely considering the extraordinary growth of Haymarket in the past decade.
“Haymarket is the city’s multi cultural hub and a vibrant business centre, day and night. It has a large following of people from the greater Sydney area, and also attracts large numbers of international visitors. The area has also developed into an important base for many international trading companies”, said Mr Chan.
Throughout the past year business confidence has remained high due to a large degree to the increased numbers of visitors to the area. Whilst tourist numbers from countries such as the US and UK have softened, the numbers of visitors from countries such as China, Korea and India are expected to remain strong.
“The guide is a way of ensuring our businesses maximise the growth of these tourism markets plus it will also help to lift the profile of the area as a colourful and exciting destination”, says Mr Chan.
Local Haymarket businesses are now being invited to advertise in the guide which will also include a map of the area and be widely distributed at venues including City of Sydney tourist kiosks.
The guide has been developed by the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce with the assistance of a grant from the City of Sydney and is due for release in September.
